The Remodel — Part 4

We’ve covered the interior renovation in Part 1, the appliances and batteries in Part 2, and our WIFI in Part 3; however, there were a few more upgrades we made to make things even more comfortable.

Awnings

One thing Stella didn’t come with was the awning packed. The main awning was there, but to better maintain temperature and block the sun from coming into the windows we decided to have the awning packed installed.

The awning package gives us shade on the roadside and rear windows, drastically reducing the amount of sunlight heating up the interior and baking us while working from the desk.

MaxxFans

Stella came with two stock fans and rain covers, but they were inefficient and didn’t regulate airflow how we wanted. Additionally, we couldn’t use them when in motion. The Maxxfan Delux allows us to use it while in motion, keeping the Airstream cool while we’re traveling, and it can be used when it’s raining. When we’re boondocking, this allows us to better regulate temperature without having to plug into the truck to run the AC.

The MaxxFans are the two black objects at the front and back. We chose not to put a rain cover on the front one for better aerodynamics.

Exterior

Skylight

This one was pretty simple. The existing skylight was crusted over and didn’t allow for much light to come in. We simply swapped it out.

Back Up Camera

We added a back up camera as well to give us visibility behind the Airstream when backing up and towing. Between this camera and the F-150 mirrors / blind spot monitors we feel we comfortably have every angle covered.

Bike Rack

The last and final thing we did was put a bike rack on the back for our gravel bikes. We chose to go with the Fiamma rack that comes with most Airstreams for simplicity and weight purposes.
