The Inception

We’re officially at 10-months of preparation! Countless hours reading the great blogs of other travelers, doing internet research over at the Mobile Internet Resource Center, hundreds of emails back and forth with the great people at Ultimate Airstreams, and endless, sleepless nights wondering, “what are we thinking”.

The idea of this was planted years ago, on one of my travels in 2020 during the pandemic. I was driving through the Nantahala National Forest along the Nantahala River, everything was shut down during the pandemic, and I saw camper after camper after camper, all with families enjoying the outdoors and getting excited for their rafting trips. It’s here I wondered if I could get one too and travel around the U.S. working remotely. I took a trip over to the local Camping World to see what they were all about…

The first camper I looked at was a Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro.

I fell in love immediately. Not specifically with this model, although it was great for one person and the Jeep could easily handle it, but with the idea and freedom of traveling around the country and working from anywhere. It was liberating.

I spent the next few months trying to see how I could make this work, quite literally. Working in software development meant many hours spent at my laptop, rather than an office; however, ensuring I was always connected was key.
